When travelling in bear country, it is important to be bear-aware to ensure both your safety and the safety of the bears. Carry bear spray, make noise while hiking, and store food properly to avoid attracting bears. Be vigilant and know how to react if you encounter a bear, such as backing away slowly and avoiding eye contact. Following these guidelines can help minimize the risk of bear encounters in the backcountry.
