Climb the Northern Rocky Mountains

July 24th - 28th

Climbers Andrew and Michelle Neis have been developing routes along the cliffs of Williston Lake for over 10 years. Their dedication to the sport has produced over 50 routes along limestone rock walls that jut up from the reservoir, making the climbs some of the best in Northern BC.

Climbs range from 5.8 - 5.12 with two main crags only minutes from camp. A full guide book is available for download.

The Camp

Depending on water levels of the lake, camp can be tucked away in the trees, or set up on a white sandy beach. There are two tent locations to choose from. Camp is rustic; set up to be a glorified backpacking tent set up. We add a few amenities such as a cooking station, outhouse, wind and sun shelters, solar panel charging station, and seating. Clients can choose to embrace camp life and set up on their own or have Untamed Tours offer a full camp set up upon arrival.

The Food…

We offer two options for food out at camp, catered and self sustaining. Bring your own food and cook for yourself, or add on our catered option. See the menu HERE

Guided Climbing…

Thomas Herbert is an ACMG Rock Guide based in Golden, BC. He has climbed all over North America and Europe, sharing his love for the outdoors with climbers of all levels.

Last summer, Tom had the opportunity to work with Danielle at Williston Lake, which has quickly became one of his favorite climbing locations anywhere.

The Lake….

Williston Lake is the reservoir for the W.A.C. Bennet Dam, which provides electricity for a third of B.C's power demand. It is the third largest artificial lake in North America as well as the largest body of fresh water in British Columbia

The lake is filled with lore and mystery. When flooding began, the water rose with a power not expected. Construction crews had not yet logged along its shores, and thousands of tress were pulled into the rising waters. Some tress remained standing and to this day, tree remains scatter the waters of the lake, making it difficult to navigate without a large vessel.

For this reason, we partner with Williston Lake Outfitters, climbing aboard their large charter boat at the Dunlevy Boat Launch in Hudson’s Hope. Stopping for lunch at Willison Lake Outfitters Camp breaks up the two hour ride to climbing camp.

The best climbing in North East BC, is on the lake….
