Our Fortress Lake Fly Fish and Hike Retreat is built in collaboration with Fortress Lake Fly Fishing Resort. The tour is designed for those who want to fish for brook trout, explore on foot, adventure by boat and unwind in one of British Columbia’s carefully preserved natural places. The lake is only accessible by helicopter fly in, or a vigorous hike and packraft expedition. Situated in the heart of the Columbia Icefield’s, bordering Jasper National Park, Fortress Lake draws you in and dazzles you with world class fly fishing and endless exploration.

Itinerary: Explore Fortress Lake in Hamber Provincial Park
Arrive at Rockies Heli, Nordegg AB to prep for your 30 min flight to the lodge. Upon arriving you will get a tour of the facility, be shown to your cabin/yurt and settle in with drinks and snacks. Your guides will have fishing and/or hiking options for the remainder of the day.
You will arrive at the lodge by 9:30am
Dinner is served at 6pm
Day 1
Breakfast is at 8am
Dinner and wine is served at 6pm
In between 8am and 6pm, the Fortress staff and your hiking host will cater your days to get the most out of your time at the lodge. This may include morning stretches, fishing for brook trout, daily hiking plans, chef prepared dinners, firing up the cedar hot tub, building a fire on the beach, socializing in the common room or floating on the lake with the paddle boards.
The trip is entirely catered to guests needs and wants. With a full staff we can accommodate a variety of interests.

Day 4
Enjoy your breakfast before packing your bag, and enjoying one more early fish or some beach time before the helicopter arrives to take you home.
Guests fly out at 10am.

Accommodation:
Fortress Lake Lodge is tucked into the valley surrounded by mountains, glaciers, creeks, streams and rivers. The lodge offers six cozy yurts which can accommodate two people, two canvas cabins that sleep up to three and a communal eating area where a professional chef prepares delicious meals for the guests.
Guests can also enjoy a relaxing soak in the cedar hot tub, and power boats are available to take you to the trailhead. The lodge features Yurt Showers, flush toilets, gravel beaches, and stunning views of glaciers and mountains. The property boasts 360-degree natural beauty and offers excellent opportunities for fishing brook trout.
Getting there:
We fly out of Nordegg, AB. Nordegg is situated on highway 11, just east of the Columbia Icefields Highway. It is three hours from Edmonton or Calgary and 1.5 hours from Red Deer. Ask us about transportation from the Calgary airport.
